Ignition Switch & Circuit Test: MR2
- Remove driver's lower instrument panel cover. Remove upper and lower steering column covers if needed. Locate ignition switch wiring harness connector (10-cavity connector).
- Using test light, backprobe Black/Red wire terminal of ignition switch wiring harness connector. If test light glows, go to step 4). If test light does not glow, check for blown White fusible link near battery. If fusible link is okay, check for open in White wire to 7.5-amp AM2 fuse, located in right side fuse/relay block of front luggage compartment.
- Check for blown 7.5-amp AM2 fuse (NOT the 40-amp AM2 H-fuse). If fusible link and AM2 fuse are okay, check for open in Black/Red wire from 7.5-amp AM2 fuse to ignition switch. Repair as required.
- Using test light, backprobe Red wire terminal of ignition switch wiring harness connector. Turn ignition switch to START position. If test light does not glow, replace ignition switch. If test light glows, check for open or short in Red wire circuit through neutral start switch or through clutch start switch to starter relay.
- If test light glows at either neutral start switch or clutch start switch, check starter relay for open or short. Repair or replace wiring and components as required.
