Secondary Ignition Coil Resistance

  1. On Corolla and Tercel, using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between coil positive terminal and coil tower.
  2. If resistance is not within specification, replace ignition coil. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is within specification, proceed to PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE TEST.
  3. On Pickup, measure resistance between positive (Brown wire) and high-tension (coil) terminal. If resistance is not within specification, replace ignition coil. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. If resistance is within specification, proceed to next step.
  4. Measure coil insulation resistance between positive (Brown wire) and igniter body ground ("GND"). Ohmmeter should read infinity. If ohmmeter does not read infinity, replace ignition coil. If ohmmeter reading is okay, proceed to PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE TEST.
