Cranking Test

  1. Disconnect battery negative cable. Connect voltmeter negative and ammeter positive lead to negative cable. Connect voltmeter positive lead to battery positive terminal and ammeter negative lead to battery negative terminal.
  2. Disconnect ignition coil secondary wire from distributor and ground it. Turn ignition switch to START position. Check cranking voltage and current draw. Voltage should be no less than specification. Current draw should be at specification or less.
