Choke Breaker Preliminary Inspection: Pickup

  1. Check choke linkage and diaphragm with cold engine. While holding throttle valve slightly open, push choke valve closed and hold it closed while releasing throttle valve.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hose from intake manifold to restrictor. See Fig 1. Apply vacuum to restrictor. Check that choke valve slightly opens. If a problem is found, inspect restrictor.
  3. Check restrictor by applying air to each side of diaphragm. Restrictor is located in vacuum hose going to choke breaker. See Fig 1. Check restrictor for blockage. If blockage is found replace restrictor. If restrictor is okay, repair or replace choke breaker.
