Choke Breaker Preliminary Inspection: Corolla

  1. Check Thermostatic Vacuum Switching Valve (TVSV) operation with cold engine. Cool TVSV to less than 45°F (7°C).
  2. Start engine. Disconnect vacum hose from choke breaker diaphragm "B". Check that choke linkage does not move. Reconnect vacuum hose to diaphragm "B".
  3. Check choke breaker restrictor and diaphragm "A" operation. Disconnect vacuum hose from choke breaker diaphragm "A". Check that choke linkage moves.
  4. Reconnect vacuum hose to diaphragm "A". Check that choke linkage moves within 1-5 seconds after reconnecting hose. Check TVSV and diaphragm "B" operation. Warm engine to operating temperature.
  5. Disconnect vacuum hose from diaphragm "B". Check that choke linkage returns. Reconnect vacuum hose to diaphragm "B".
  6. If choke breaker does not function as described, inspect each individual component for proper operation. Inspect restrictor, choke breaker diaphragms and Thermostatic Vacuum Switching Valve (TVSV).
