Rear Anti-Lock Brake System

NOTE: Whenever power steering hoses or power steering pressure tubes are disconnected or the actuator is removed from the vehicle, the Rear Anti-Lock Brake System should be bled in the following procedure.

  1. Bleed Power Steering System

    Bleed the power steering system. See HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING in POWER STEERING article in STEERING.
  2. Bleed Brake System

    Bleed the brake system with engine running. Then bleed the brake system with engine off.
  3. Bleed Power Steering System Again

    Disconnect the connector from the actuator.
  4. Disconnect the connector from the solenoid relay.
  5. Connect the ABS Actuator Checker and Sub-Harness Tool (09950-00150) to the actuator, solenoid relay and body side wire harness through the ABS Actuator Checker Sub-Harness "D" (09950-00205). See Figure.
  6. Connect the red cable of the checker to the battery positive (+) terminal and black to the negative (-) terminal.
  7. Start the engine, and run it at idle.
  8. Turn the selector switch on the actuator checker to the "AIR BLEED" position.
  9. Strongly depress the brake pedal and hold it.
  10. CAUTION: To avoid damaging the master cylinder piston cup, do not push on the switch before depressing the brake pedal and do not release your foot from the brake pedal while the switch is pushed on.
  11. Push on and release the ON/OFF switch three seconds each for five times.
  12. Release the switch, then release the brake pedal.
  13. Check the power steering and brake fluid level, and add the fluid if necessary.
  14. Remove the ABS Actuator Checker and Sub-Harness Tool (09950-00150) and the ABS Actuator Checker Sub-Harness "D" (09950-00205), then connect the connectors of the actuator and solenoid relay.
