Check Engine Light

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1990 Toyota Pickup, 1990 Toyota Cab & Chassis, 1990 Toyota 4Runner, 1989 Toyota Pickup, and 1989 Toyota Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check engine light will come on when ignition switch is in ON position and engine is not running. When engine is started, CHECK ENGINE light should go off. If light remains on while engine is running, trouble code is present.
  2. If light did not come on with key on and engine off, the CHECK ENGINE light circuit must be checked before continuing. Perform the DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK  for the particular model. Circuit checks are located with the trouble code charts.
