Control Unit

An Emission Control Computer (also known as electronic control unit) governs the operation of the carburetor air bleeds based on sensor inputs. The computer also controls other emission and fuel system functions.

On California models only, the computer contains a self-diagnostics system. An instrument panel mounted "CHECK ENGINE" light will flash when a malfunction occurs. ECC analyzes various signals and detects system malfunction. Computer will store failure codes associated with detected failure. For information on trouble codes, see TESTS W/CODES article for Toyota.
