ISSUE & TIP
Two-wheel drive 1984-89 Toyota Vans are notorious for wearing the inside edges of the front tires, even after several alignments. The problem is caused by tired torsion bars allowing excessive front end dip and toe-out during braking.
The fix is to readjust the front end riding height by tightening the 7/8-inch double-nutted adjusting bolt at the rear of the torsion bar. The job is made easier by using an extra deep 7/8-inch, 1/2-inch drive socket. We add a half hour labor charge to our front end alignment fee for this service. Customers are tickled with their like-new road feel.
