Differential Assembly: Disassembly
- Measure side gear backlash while holding another side gear toward case. Standard backlash is .002-.010" (.04-.24 mm). If necessary, replace ring gear, differential pinions and side gears.
- Lift lock plates and remove ring gear bolts. Using brass drift and hammer, tap ring gear to separate from differential case. If ring gear is to be reused, place alignment marks before separating. If ring gear or drive pinion are damaged, replace as a set.
- Tap out straight-pin toward ring gear installation surface. Remove pinion shaft, pinion gears, side gears and thrust washers.
