Starters - NIPPONDENSO Direct Drive: Description
NOTE:
Some Calif. Honda Civics are equipped with Hitachi starters. See appropriate article in this section.
The Nippondenso direct drive starter is a conventional 12-volt, 4-pole, brush-type starter. The integral solenoid is attached to the drive housing. When the starter is energized, the solenoid causes the starter pinion to engage the flywheel ring gear.
The overrunning clutch pinion drive is mounted directly on the drive end of the armature shaft. Although starters may have varying kilowatt ratings, testing and service procedures are similar.
