Rear Drive Unit Assembly - Heat Exchanger, 3DU - Remove And Replace: Remove

  1. Verify there is no abnormal tire wear per Courtesy Inspection.
  2. Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See RAISE VEHICLE - 2 STANDS .
  3. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See UNDERHOOD TRIM - REAR APRON ASSEMBLY - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  5. On the touchscreen, tap Controls > Service > Towing  to place the vehicle into tow mode.
  6. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See SERVICE MODE .
  7. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See GATEWAY UNLOCK .
  8. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Fill/Drain  , click Run  , and allow the routine to complete.
  9. Disconnect LV power. See LV BATTERY - LI-ION - DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
  10. Remove the RH rear halfshaft. See REAR HALFSHAFTS - HALFSHAFT ASSEMBLY, REAR, SHAFT (LH) - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  11. Position the coolant drain collector underneath the RH rear of the HV battery.
  12. Release the clip that attaches the rear drive unit outlet hose to the rear drive unit heat exchanger.

  13. Release the coolant outlet hose from rear driver unit heat exchanger, and plug both ends.
    NOTE: Use a shop towel to clean any residue coolant if necessary. Coolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.

  14. Release the fir tree clip (x1) for upper coolant hose.

  15. Release the rear drive unit inverter coolant hose from heat exchanger.
    NOTE: Use a foldable funnel as required.

  16. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear drive unit heat exchanger to the rear drive unit, and then remove the heat exchanger from the drive unit.
    NOTE: The number of fasteners may vary due to production changes.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • External Torx Plus EP10
    • 1/4 in to 3/8 in adapter
    • 2 in extension
    • 4 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench

  17. Remove the heat exchanger from the drive unit assembly.
