Rear Drive Unit Assembly - Assembly, Cover, Phase Out, 3DU - Remove And Replace: Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See RAISE VEHICLE - 2 STANDS .
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See UNDERHOOD TRIM - REAR APRON ASSEMBLY - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  3. Disconnect the LV power. See LV BATTERY - LI-ION - DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
  4. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See 2ND ROW SEAT ASSEMBLIES - 2ND ROW SEAT CUSHION - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  5. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See VEHICLE HV DISABLEMENT PROCEDURE .
  6. Remove the rear aero shield panel. See REAR UNDERTRAY AND DIFFUSER - MODEL 3/Y, REAR AERO SHIELD - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  7. Remove the rear HV battery skid plate. See HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY ASSEMBLY - SKID PLATE, REAR, ECOAT, ENCLOSURE - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  8. Remove the bolt that attaches the HV battery to rear drive unit harness bracket to the rear drive unit inverter.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless hex driver

  9. Remove the nut that attaches the HV battery to rear drive unit harness bracket to the HV battery.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm magnetic deep nutsetter
    • Cordless hex driver

  10. Slide the release to unlock the HV battery rear drive unit connector handle of the rear drive unit to HV battery harness from the secured position.

  11. Fully raise the handle on the HV battery rear drive unit connector.

  12. Disconnect the electrical connector that attaches the rear drive unit HV harness to the HV battery.
  13. Repeat step  10 through step  12 on the other side of the rear drive unit HV harness.
  14. Remove the label from the phase out cover and discard it.

  15. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the phase out cover to the rear drive unit.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • External Torx Plus EP10
    • 4 in extension
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

  16. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the phase out cover from the vehicle.
