Front Drive Inverter - Assembly, Fluid Coupling - Remove And Replace: Remove

  1. Remove the front subframe assembly. See FRONT SUBFRAME - FRONT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  2. Release the spring clip that attaches the front drive unit inverter inlet hose to the 90 degrees fluid coupling.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Foldable Funnel (1463565-00-A)
    • Medium flat head screwdriver
    • Coolant hose plug kit (1135762-00-A)

  3. Remove the LH front drive unit mount from the front drive unit. See FRONT DRIVE UNIT ASSEMBLY - LH MOUNT ASSEMBLY, 3DUF - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  4. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the 90 degrees fluid coupling to the front drive inverter assembly, and then remove and discard the 90 degrees fluid coupling.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Cordless Drill
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Torx T25 bit

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See RAISE VEHICLE - 2 STANDS .
  2. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See GATEWAY UNLOCK .
  4. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Fill/Drain > Run  , and then allow the routine to complete.

    Tip: The routine has a 5-hour time limit.

  5. Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV BATTERY - LI-LON - DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
  6. Release the clips (x3) to remove the fresh air gutter assembly.

  7. Remove the front aero shield panel. See FRONT UNDERTRAY - MODEL 3/Y, FRONT AERO SHIELD - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  8. Position the coolant drain container under the LH front of the front drive unit.
  9. Disconnect the front drive unit inverter inlet hose from the fluid coupling, and plug the ends of both fittings as soon as possible to avoid coolant loss.

    Tip: Coolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.

  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the straight fluid coupling and the front drive unit inverter, and then remove and discard the straight fluid coupling.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Cordless drill
    • Torx T25 Bit
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
