Drive Unit - Rear - Remove And Install: Install

  1. Move the rear subframe and subframe lift to underneath the rear drive unit.

  2. With the help of an assistant, use the gantry to lower the rear drive unit sling tool, guide halfshafts away from the rear drive unit, and lower the rear drive unit into the rear subframe.

  3. Lower the rear drive unit sling tool so as to install and hand tighten the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit to the rear of the rear subframe.

  4. Install and hand tighten the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit to the RH side of the rear subframe.

  5. Install and hand tighten the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit to the LH side of the rear subframe.

  6. Lower the drive unit sling tool to release tension in the cables, and then remove the sling tool from the gantry.

  7. Remove the hooks (x3), and then remove the drive unit sling tool from the rear drive unit.

  8. Tighten the rear drive unit mount bolts (x3).

    120 N.m (88.5 ft-lbs)

  9. Loosen the nut and bolt that attach the LH toe link to the LH rear knuckle.
    NOTE: Do not remove the nut or bolt.

  10. Loosen the nut and bolt that attach the LH upper fore link to the LH rear knuckle.
    NOTE: Do not remove the nut or bolt.

  11. Loosen the nut and bolt that attach the RH toe link to the RH rear knuckle.

  12. Loosen the nut and bolt that attach the RH upper fore link to the RH rear knuckle.

  13. Loosen the nut and bolts that attach the LH and RH upper aft links to the LH and RH rear knuckles.

  14. Remove the axle seal plug, and with the help of an assistant, install the LH rear halfshaft into the rear drive unit, and then firmly press the halfshaft into the drive unit so that the halfshaft is fully seated.
    NOTE: An audible click is heard when the halfshaft is fully seated and the C-clip is fully engaged.

  15. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH toe link to the rear subframe.

    85 N.m (62.7 ft-lbs) 

    NOTE: Support the knuckle while installing.

  16. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH upper fore link to the rear subframe.

  17. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH upper aft link to the rear subframe.

  18. Fasten the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the rear drive unit, and then connect the electrical harness to the LH ride height sensor connector.

  19. Install the bolt that attaches the LH ride height sensor arm to the LH upper fore link.

    8 N.m (5.9 ft-lbs)

  20. Repeat step  19 through step  24 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  21. Remove the plug from the fitting, immediately connect the powertrain coolant supply hose to the rear drive unit inverter, and then fasten the clip that secures the fitting.
    NOTE: Perform a push-pull-push test at the fitting to make sure the hose is securely connected.

  22. Fasten the clip that attaches the rear subframe electrical harness to the LH side of the rear drive unit, connect the electrical harness to the logic connector, and then secure the locking tab.

  23. Fasten the clips (x2) that attach the rear subframe electrical harness to the RH side of the rear drive unit, connect the electrical harness to the rear drive unit resolver connector, and then push the red tab to secure the connector.

  24. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the powertrain coolant return hose to the rear drive unit.

  25. Remove the plug from the fitting, immediately connect the powertrain coolant return hose to the rear drive unit heat exchanger, and then fasten the clip that secures the fitting.
    NOTE: Perform a push-pull-push test at the fitting to make sure the hose is securely connected.
  26. Install the ground strap to the rear drive unit and rear subframe, and then install the bolt and fasten the clips (x2) that attach the ground strap to the subframe.

    10 N.m (7.4 ft-lbs)

  27. Install the rear subframe stiffener to the rear subframe, and then install the bolts (x4) that attach the stiffener to the subframe.

    120 N.m (88.5 ft-lbs)

  28. Install the rear subframe assembly. See Subframe Assembly - Rear (Remove and Install) .
  29. Install the rear drive unit ground strap to the body stud, and then install the nut that attaches the ground strap to the stud.

    10 N.m (7.4 ft-lbs)

  30. Install the rear fascia diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear Fascia (Remove and Replace) .
  31. Install the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace) .
  32. Install the rear wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install) .
  33. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) .
  34. Engage the electronic parking brake. See Park Brake Caliper - Release - Toolbox .
  35. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect) .
  36. Perform a cooling system air purge. See Cooling System (Partial Refill and Bleed) .
  37. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect) .
  38. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install) .
  39. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
  40. Hold the LH and RH B-pillar upper buttons in the Close position to manually calibrate the LH and RH falcon wing doors.
  41. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
