SIM Card - Card Computer (eCall) - Remove and Replace: Install

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2023 Tesla Model 3, 2022 Tesla Model 3, 2021 Tesla Model 3, 2020 Tesla Model 3, and 2019 Tesla Model 3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the new SIM card into the car computer slot with the notch up and the gold pads facing away from the bulkhead.
    NOTE: If installing a non-Tesla SIM card, refer to Toolbox article 10088 for additional requirements. Additionally, customer must complete form SC-15-21-001.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the SIM card goes into the slot, before releasing your grip of the SIM card.

  2. Carefully press the SIM card fully into the slot, so that the catch engages.
    CAUTION: If using a thin tool to press the SIM card in, use the tool as shown.

  3. Raise the EMI shield.

  4. Install a new screw to attach the EMI shield to the bottom of the car computer.

    1 N.m (.7 ft-lbs)

  5. Tighten the lower LH screw that attaches the car computer to the bracket.

    3.5 N.m (2.6 ft-lbs)

  6. Install the passenger footwell cover. See COVER - FOOTWELL - PASSENGER (LHD) (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  7. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV POWER (DISCONNECT AND CONNECT) .
