Subframe Assembly - Front - Remove And Install: Install

  1. Move the subframe lifting tool and front subframe in to under the vehicle.

  2. Connect the shop supply air to the subframe lifting tool

  3. With the help of an assistant, carefully raise the front subframe into the vehicle.
    NOTE: Hold the knuckles aside, and guide the active damper forks around suspension links.

  4. Install and hand-tighten the front and middle bolts (x4) of the front subframe.
    NOTE:
    • Front bolts - 16 mm or 18 mm heads (M12 1.75x75 bolt (1063242-00-B) and M12x24x2.5 washer (1103852-00-A) or just M12-1.75x115 bolt (1608611-00-C))
    • Middle bolts - 18 mm heads

  5. Use a battery powered drill to run up the bolts, but do not tighten fully.
    NOTE: The bolts will be fully tightened in a later step.

  6. Lower the subframe lift, disconnect the shop supply air, and move the lift out from under the vehicle.

  7. Install and hand-tighten the rear bolts (x2) of the front subframe.
    NOTE: 21 mm heads (M14 2.0x58 (1133941-00-C) or M14 2.0x67 (1638540-00-A))

  8. Use a battery powered drill to run up the bolts, but do not tighten fully.
    NOTE: The bolts will be fully tightened in a later step.

  9. Fully tighten the front subframe bolts.
    NOTE: Torque specs
    • Front bolts, 16 mm head - 80 N.m
    • Front bolts, 18 mm head - 80 N.m
    • Middle bolts - 80 N.m
    • Rear bolts, 58 mm long - 115 N.m
    • Rear bolts, 67 mm long - 145 N.m

  10. Install the LH tie rod into the LH front knuckle, and then install a new nyloc nut to attach the tie rod to the knuckle.

    102 N.m (75.2 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 21 mm socket

  11. Install the LH fore link to the LH front knuckle, and then install a new nyloc nut to attach the fore link to the knuckle.

    180 N.m (132.7 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 22 mm socket
    • Torx T45 socket
    NOTE: To prevent ball joint damage, use a T45 tool to prevent the LH fore link ball joint stud from turning while installing the nut.

  12. Install the LH aft link to the LH front knuckle, and then install a new nut to attach the aft link to the knuckle.

    180 N.m (132.7 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 22 mm socket
    • Torx T45 socket
    NOTE: To prevent ball joint damage, use a T45 tool to prevent the LH aft link ball joint stud from turning while installing the nut.

  13. Install and hand tighten the nut and bolt that attach the LH front active damper to the front lower aft link.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 21 mm socket
    • 21 mm combination wrench
    NOTE: The nut and bolt will be torqued during the alignment check.

  14. Install the LH front stabilizer bar link into the front stabilizer bar, and then install a new nyloc nut that attaches the link to the stabilizer bar.

    70 N.m (51.6 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 15 mm socket
    • 5 mm hex
    NOTE: To prevent ball joint damage, use a 5 mm hex wrench to prevent the LH link ball joint stud from turning while installing the nut.

  15. Remove the LH ANC sensor and damper bracket from the S-hook, route the electrical harness over the lower links and under the tie rod and axle, install the bracket onto the LH front active damper, and then install the bolt that attaches the bracket to the damper.

    6 N.m (4.4 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm socket

  16. Repeat step  10 through step  15 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  17. Slide the steering column intermediate shaft down and onto the steering rack input shaft.

  18. Install the bolt that attaches the steering column intermediate shaft to the steering rack input shaft.

    30 N.m (22.1 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 13 mm socket

  19. Connect the electrical harness to the EPAS CAN connectors (x2), and then slide the red locking tabs.

  20. Connect the steering rack electrical connectors (x2), and then slide the red locking tab.

  21. Bring the electrical harness to the front subframe, and then fasten the clips (x3) that attach the electrical harness to the subframe.

  22. Install the front skid plate. See Skidplate - Front (Remove And Replace) .
  23. Install the front fascia valance. See Valance - Front Fascia (Remove and Replace) .
  24. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace) .
  25. Install the LH and RH front wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install) .
  26. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) .
  27. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
  28. Remove the steering wheel holder from the vehicle.
  29. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
  30. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension .
