Steering Column - Remove And Replace: Removal

  1. Make sure that the front road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Remove the driver's side lower dash trim. See Trim - Dash - Driver's Side - Lower (Remove And Replace) .
  3. Remove the steering controller module. See Module - Steering Column Control (Remove And Replace) .
  4. Disconnect the steering column motor harness connectors (x2).
    CAUTION: Take care not to damage component(s).

  5. Mark the upper intermediate shaft position relative to the column.
  6. Remove the bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column (torque 30 N.m).

  7. Working from the driver's footwell, remove the bolts that secure the steering column to the IP carrier bracket:
    • Vehicles built before April 11, 2016: Upper and lower fasteners - torque 30 N.m
    • Vehicles built on or after April 11, 2016: Upper fasteners - torque 30 N.m, lower fasteners - torque 17 N.m

  8. Release the steering column from the upper intermediate shaft and remove the steering column from the vehicle.
