Shaft - Steering Column - Intermediate Upper (RHD) - Remove And Replace: Removal

  1. Lower the RH front window.
  2. Move RH seat fully backward.
  3. Install a steering wheel holder.
    NOTE: The steering wheel position can be adjusted throughout this procedure to access components. Keep the steering wheel holder installed.

  4. Remove the RH front wheel Wheel (Remove And Install) .
  5. Remove the nut (torque 6 N.m) and clips (x5) that attach the rear part of the RH front arch liner, and then move away the rear part of the arch liner for access.

  6. Working from the RH wheelwell, disconnect the power train coolant pump connector, and then remove the coolant pump from the bracket using a pry tool.
  7. Remove the bolt (torque 50 N.m) that attaches the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft.

  8. Separate the upper intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft.
  9. Lower the vehicle Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
  10. Remove the RH floor mat.
  11. Release the clips (x13) that attach the RH center console trim panel to the center console.

  12. Release the clips (x6) that attach the RH center console close out panel to the center console, and then remove the panel.

  13. Release the clips (x2) that secure the RH footwell cover, disconnect the puddle lamp connector, and then remove the RH footwell cover.

  14. Rotate the steering wheel to gain access to the bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column. Remove the bolt (torque 30 N.m).
    NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to over-rotate 360 degrees

  15. NOTE: Take note to remember the original position where the upper and lower shaft were separated.

    Separate the upper intermediate shaft from the steering column, and then remove the shaft with the steering seal as an assembly.
