Mount - Front Drive Unit - LH - Remove And Replace: Removal
- Remove the 12V battery cage Cage - Battery - Auxiliary - 12V (Remove And Replace) .
- Remove the center cap from the front LH wheel and loosen the axle nut (torque 245 N.m).
- Remove the front dust shield Shield - Dust - Brake - Front - LH (Remove And Replace) .
- Release the wheel speed sensor harness from the bracket on the knuckle and the bracket on the body of the vehicle.NOTE: The following image shows the rotor still installed.
- Release the fir tree clip that secures the wheel speed sensor harness to the knuckle.NOTE: The following image shows the rotor still installed.
- Remove the bolt that secures the wheel speed sensor to the knuckle (torque 8 N.m).NOTE: The following image shows the rotor still installed.
- Carefully wrap the wheel speed sensor in non-conductive protective material to prevent damage. Move the wheel speed sensor out of the working area.
- Remove the nut that secures the tie rod end to the knuckle (torque 104 N.m).CAUTION: To prevent ball joint damage, always hold the ball joint pin with a wrench while loosening or tightening the lock nut.
- Release the tie rod end from the knuckle.
- Remove the nut that secures the stabilizer bar link to the knuckle (torque 70 N.m).CAUTION: To prevent ball joint damage, always hold the ball joint pin with a wrench while loosening or tightening the lock nut.
Tip: Temporarily position a block of wood or other material on the top side of the upper control arm to prevent the upper control arm from swinging upwards in the next step.
- Remove the bolt and nut that secure the upper control arm ball joint to the knuckle (torque 60 N.m).CAUTION: Take care not to damage component(s).
- Release the knuckle from the upper control arm.
- Remove the nut and discard the washer that secure the front axle nut.NOTE: The nut can be reused.
- Use a deadblow hammer to release the halfshaft from the hub.CAUTION: Take care not to damage component(s).
- Remove the HV battery HV Battery (AWD) (Remove And Install) .
- Drain the fluid from the front drive unit GEARBOX FLUID - FRONT DRIVE UNIT (1ST GENERATION) (DRAIN AND REFILL) .
- Remove the bolt that secures the lower intermediate shaft to the steering rack (torque 30 N.m).
- Remove the bolt that secures the bottom of the spring module to the lower control arm (torque 140 N.m).
- Use the axle extractor tool to release the LH halfshaft from the front drive unit.
- Remove the LH halfshaft from the vehicle.
- Install the drive unit cradle onto the transmission jack.
- Position the transmission jack underneath the drive unit.
- Raise the transmission jack to support the weight of the drive unit.CAUTION: Ensure that the ridge on the base of the drive unit fits into the channel on the drive unit cradle.NOTE: The mount is removed as two separate pieces.
- Remove the bolts that attach the clevis to the LH motor mount (torque 50 N.m).
- Remove the bolts that attach the LH motor mount to the front drive unit (torque 38 N.m).
- Remove the fasteners that secure the isolator section of the mount to the drive unit (torque 38 N.m).
