Steering Column - Remove And Replace: Installation

  1. Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
    CAUTION: Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.
    CAUTION: Replace all patchbolt(s).
  2. Ensure that the upper intermediate shaft to column marking aligns correctly.
  3. Calibrate the steering rack, using Toolbox 3:
    NOTE: Steering rack calibration is only required if the vehicle is equipped with a Bosch type steering rack.
    1. Select the Actions  tab and search for "Bosch EPAS Calibration".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_EPAS_X_CALIBRATION  , and then click the link of the routine.
    3. Click RUN  , and allow the routine to complete.
      NOTE: After calibrating EPAS, drive the vehicle for a minimum of 5 minutes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
  4. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions  tab and search for and search for "Clear Angle Offsets".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_EPAS_ESP_CLEAR-ANGLE-OFFSETS  , and then click the link of the routine.
      NOTE: This ODIN routine clears the applied angle offsets in the steering rack, the drive inverter and the ESP.
    3. Click RUN  , and allow the routine to complete.
  5. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions  tab and search for "Calibrate Steering Column".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_SUN_X_CALIBRATE-STEERING-COLUMN  , and then click the link of the routine.
    3. Click RUN  , and allow the routine to complete.
  6. Perform a Lock To Lock-Angle test. See Lock To Lock-Angle Test .
