Module - Passive Safety Restraint - PSRCM - Remove And Replace: Installation

  1. Position the PSRCM into the vehicle for installation.

  2. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the PSRCM to the body (torque 10 N.m).

  3. Install the bolt that attaches the connector side of the PSRCM to the body (torque 10 N.m).

  4. Connect the forward PSRCM connector. Place the connector into position on the RCM and pivot the catch towards the front of the vehicle until the catch is parallel to the RCM.
    NOTE: An audible click indicates that the connector lock is engaged. Verify connection by performing a push-pull-push test.

  5. Similarly, connect the rearward RCM connector, and then perform a push-pull-push test.

  6. RHD vehicles only: Reinstall the central body controller - BCM (RHD). See Module - Body Controller - BCM (1st Generation) (RHD) (Remove and Replace) .
  7. Reinstall the active suspension ECU. See Module - Air Suspension - ECU (Remove and Install) .
  8. Reconnect 12v power See Disconnect 12V Power .
  9. Reinstall the latest vehicle firmware, or update the firmware if not the latest. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen or Firmware Update .
  10. For Model S vehicles built before approximately February 19, 2019:  Use the Toolbox 2 Application Airbag Program panel to update the PSRCM module.
    NOTE: Refer to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com/software to download the Toolbox 2 Desktop Application. The Toolbox 2 Desktop Application can also be found in the Download Software menu of Toolbox 3.
    NOTE: Use a PEAK-CAN dongle (PN: 1016990-00-A) and a CAN breakout harness (PN: 1013716-00-A) to connect the laptop to the vehicle CAN BUS.
    1. Make sure the drivers for the CAN-Dongle are up to date. If necessary, download the drivers from the Peak website (https://www.peak-system.com/Support.55.0.html).
    2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock .
    3. Connect Toolbox 2 as normal to the vehicle until a green dot appears in the bottom left corner of the screen.
    4. Connect the PCAN dongle to the laptop.

    5. Connect the CAN breakout harness to the vehicle.
      NOTE: The connector may be white on some vehicles.

    6. Connect the "chassis" connector on the CAN breakout harness to the PCAN dongle.

    7. There should now be a grey button next to the green button in the bottom left corner of the screen.
    8. Click the grey button, and then click Chassis  in the drop-down menu.
      NOTE: The grey button should turn green.

  11. For Model S vehicles built after approximately February 19, 2019:  Perform the following.
    1. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock .
    2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
    3. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions  tab, type "Airbag-Config" into the search field, click PROC_RCM_X_AIRBAG-CONFIG, click Run  , and allow the routine to complete.
    4. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions  tab, type "ESP-CONFIG" into the search field, click PROC_ESP_X_ESP-CONFIG, click Run  , and allow the routine to complete.
    5. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  12. Ensure that the airbag safety indicator light displays on the instrument cluster during vehicle startup and then turns off after 6 seconds.
