Steering Wheel - Remove And Replace: Removal
- Remove the driver's air bag Air Bag - Driver's (Remove And Replace) .
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels point straight ahead.
- Use a 10 mm hex socket to remove and discard the patch bolt that secures the steering wheel to the column (torque 80 N.m).
- Before removing the steering wheel, mark the steering wheel relative position to the column.NOTE: Take note of the elongated splines on the upper and lower center of the steering wheel. Mark the steering column shaft relative to the indicated steering wheel splines.
- Remove the steering wheel from the vehicle.CAUTION: Do not turn the clockspring when removing the steering wheel.
- Tape the clockspring to prevent rotation. Do not allow the clockspring to rotate.
