Steering Wheel - Remove And Replace: Removal

  1. Remove the driver's air bag Air Bag - Driver's (Remove And Replace) .
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels point straight ahead.
  3. Use a 10 mm hex socket to remove and discard the patch bolt that secures the steering wheel to the column (torque 80 N.m).

  4. Before removing the steering wheel, mark the steering wheel relative position to the column.
    NOTE: Take note of the elongated splines on the upper and lower center of the steering wheel. Mark the steering column shaft relative to the indicated steering wheel splines.

  5. Remove the steering wheel from the vehicle.
    CAUTION: Do not turn the clockspring when removing the steering wheel.
  6. Tape the clockspring to prevent rotation. Do not allow the clockspring to rotate.
