Steering Rack (RHD RWD) (1st Generation) - Remove And Replace: Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
CAUTION:
Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.
CAUTION:
Replace all patchbolt(s).
- Ensure that the lower intermediate shaft to pinion markings align correctly.
- When reinstalling the bolts that secure the steering rack to the subframe, follow this sequence:
- Tighten the LH bolt to 30 N.m.
- Tighten the RH bolt to 30 N.m.
- Fully torque the LH bolt to 175 N.m.
- Fully torque the RH bolt to 175 N.m.
- Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen .
- Use the Toolbox Power Steering (EPAS) Control panel to reflash the steering rack.
- Perform a Lock To Lock-Angle test. See Lock To Lock-Angle Test .
- Use the Toolbox ESP Configuration
panel to calibrate the steering rack.NOTE: After recalibrating the power steering, drive the vehicle for a minimum of 5 minutes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine if an alignment check (AC) or full adjustment (FA) is necessary. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension .
