Steering Gear Case Assembly Removal and Installation: Removal
- Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
- Hoist vehicle.
- Remove steering lower shaft from steering gear case, see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove front seat, see FRONT SEAT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove glove box, center console box, side sill inner front scuff and dash side trim. INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION / CENTER CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION / TRIM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Turn over floor carpet on passenger's side floor.
- Remove P/S control module cover, see P/S CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove P/S motor connector (1), rotation angle/torque sensor connector (2) and ground wire (3) from P/S control module and pull these harnesses into the engine compartment.
- Hoist vehicle and remove wheel, see WHEEL (WITH TIRE) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove cotter pin (2) and tie-rod end nut (1) from steering knuckle.
- Disconnect tie-rod end (1) from steering knuckle (2) using ball joint remover (3).
- Remove steering gear case and front stabilizer bar together with front suspension frame, see FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove steering gear case (2) from front suspension frame (1).
- Remove grommet from vehicle side.
