P/S System Symptom Diagnosis

This section describes trouble diagnosis of P/S system parts whose trouble is not indicated by SUZUKI scan tool. When no malfunction is indicated by SUZUKI scan tool and those steering basic parts as described in STEERING SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS are all in good condition, check the following power steering system parts which may be a possible cause for each symptom of steering.

Condition Possible Cause Action
Steering wheel feels heavy  Steering wheel installed improperly Install steering wheel correctly  , see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Poor performance of torque sensor Check torque sensor  , see TORQUE SENSOR INSPECTION .
Poor performance of P/S motor Check motor  , see P/S MOTOR INSPECTION .
Steering gear case malfunction Replace steering gear case  , see STEERING GEAR CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Vehicle speed data faulty through CAN communication Check vehicle speed data  , see SCAN TOOL DATA .
Steering wheel feels heavy momentarily when turning it to the left or right  Steering gear case malfunction Replace steering gear case  , see STEERING GEAR CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Poor recovery from turns  Poor performance of torque sensor Check torque sensor  , see TORQUE SENSOR INSPECTION .
Steering gear case malfunction Replace steering gear case  , see STEERING GEAR CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Vehicle pulls to one side during straight driving  Poor performance of torque sensor Check torque sensor  , see TORQUE SENSOR INSPECTION .
Steering gear case malfunction Replace steering gear case  , see STEERING GEAR CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Abnormal noise  P/S motor (built in steering gear case) malfunction Replace steering gear case  , see STEERING GEAR CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
