Fuel Pump Circuit Check: Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
Check fuel pump control system for operation
G04589555

Is fuel pump heard to operate for 3 sec. after ignition switch ON?
Intermittent trouble.
Check for intermittent referring to INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTION INSPECTION . If OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Go to Step 2.
Check fuel pump relay power supply
  1. Disconnect fuel pump relay from relay / fuse box with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Check for proper connection to fuel pump relay at each terminals.
  3. If it is OK, turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between engine ground and each "BLK/RED" wire terminals.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 3. Go to ECM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK .
If result in good condition, open or high resistance wire in "BLK/RED" circuit.
Check fuel pump relay
  1. Check fuel pump relay, referring to FUEL PUMP RELAY INSPECTION .

Is relay in good condition?
Go to Step 4. Faulty relay.
Check fuel pump relay drive signal
  1. Connect fuel pump relay to relay / fuse box with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Remove ECM from vehicle body referring to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and connect connectors ECM.
  3. Connect voltmeter between "C45-17" terminal and vehicle body ground.
  4. Measure voltage after 3 second ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 5. Open wire in "GRY/BLU" circuit or "GRY/BLU" circuit shorted to ground.
Check fuel pump relay drive signal
  1. Measure voltage within 3 second after ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage 0 - 1 V?
Go to Step 6. Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Check wire circuit
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Detach fuel tank referring to FUEL TANK REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Disconnect connector from fuel pump.
  4. Measure resistance between "PNK" wire terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance infinity?
Go to Step 7. "PNK" wire shorted to ground.
Check fuel pump circuit
  1. Connect service wire between "C45-17" terminal and vehicle body ground.
  2. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "PNK" terminal of fuel pump connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 8. Open or high resistance wire in "PNK" circuit.
Check fuel pump circuit
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Check that there is continuity between "BLK" terminal at fuel pump connector and vehicle body ground.

Is there continuity?
Faulty fuel pump. Open or high resistance wire in "BLK" circuit.
