Power Steering Pressure (PSP) Switch Signal Circuit Check: Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
Do you have SUZUKI scan tool?  Go to Step 2. Go to Step 3.
PSP switch signal circuit check
  1. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF.
  2. Start engine and select "DATA LIST" mode on scan tool.
  3. Check power steering pressure switch for operation.

Engine running and steering
wheel at straight-ahead position: OFF
wheel turned to the right or left as far as it stops: ON
Is it in good condition?
Signal circuit is in good condition. Go to Step 3.
PSP switch signal circuit check
  1. Remove ECM from vehicle body referring to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and connect connectors to ECM.
  2. Turn ignition switch ON.
  3. Check for voltage at terminal "C46-20" of ECM connector connected.

Engine running and steering
wheel at straight-ahead position: 10 - 4 V
wheel turned to the right or left as far as it stops: 0 - 1 V
Is each voltage as specified?
Signal circuit is in good condition. Go to Step 4.
Check wire harness
  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect PSP switch connector.
  2. Check for proper connection to PSP switch connector at "YEL" wire terminal.
  3. If OK, then check voltage at "YEL" wire terminal with ignition switch ON.

Is it 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 5. Go to Step 7.
Check wire harness
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Check for proper connection to "C46-20" terminal of ECM connector.
  3. If OK, turn ignition switch to ON position.
  4. Measure voltage between "C46-20" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
Power steering pressure switch malfunction or power steering system malfunction. "YEL" wire shorted to power circuit.
Check wire harness
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Measure resistance between "C46-20" terminal of ECM connector and body ground.

Is resistance infinity?
Go to Step 7 "YEL" wire shorted to ground circuit.
Check wire harness
  1. Measure resistance between "C46-20" terminal of ECM connector and "YEL" wire terminal of PSP switch connector.

Is resistance below 1 ohm?
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Open or high resistance wire in "YEL" circuit.
