DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK .
EGR valve power supply circuit check
  1. With ignition switch turned OFF, disconnect EGR valve connector.
  2. With ignition switch turned ON, check voltage between "BLK/RED" wire terminals of EGR valve connector and body ground.

Is check voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 3. Open wire in "BLK/RED" circuit.
Check wire circuit
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turn OFF.
  2. Turn ON ignition switch.
  3. Measure voltage between engine ground and each EGR valve connector terminal of "GRY", "GRY/WHT", "GRY/YEL", "BRN/WHT" wire.

Is each voltage 0 V?
Go to Step 4. Some wire shorted to other circuits.
If wires are OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Check wire circuit
  1. With ignition switch turned OFF, measure resistance between engine ground and each EGR valve connector terminal of "GRY", "GRY/WHT", "GRY/YEL", "BRN/WHT" wire.

Is resistance infinity?
Go to Step 5. Some wire shorted to ground circuit.
If wires are OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
EGR valve stepper motor coil circuit check
  1. With ignition switch turned OFF, connect EGR valve connector.
  2. Check resistance between ECM connector terminal of "G04-7 (or 6)" and each ECM connector terminal of "C46-8", "C46-9", "C46-18", "C46-19".

Is each resistance 20 - 31 ohm at 20°C, 68°F?
Intermittent trouble.
Check for intermittent referring to INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTION INSPECTION . If OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Go to Step 6.
Check wire circuit
  1. Turn ON ignition switch.
  2. Measure voltage between engine ground and each EGR valve connector terminal of "GRY", "GRY/WHT", "GRY/YEL", "BRN/WHT" wire.

Is each voltage 10 - 14 V?
High resistance wire in applicable circuit.
If wires are good condition, faulty EGR valve.
Open wire in applicable circuit. If wires are good condition, faulty EGR valve.
