DTC Troubleshooting

DTC TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

1 Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .
Is the system check complete?
- Go to Step 2. Go to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  2. Disconnect the EGR solenoid connector.
  3. Connect a test light between the EGR connector terminal 2 and the battery positive.

Is the test light ON?
- Go to Step 4. Go to Step 3.

  1. Repair the wire or the connector terminal between the EGR connector terminal 2 and the ECM connector terminal A11 as needed.
  2. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Connect a test light between the EGR connector terminal 3 and the ECM connector terminal A9.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Is the test light ON?
- Go to Step 6. Go to Step 5.

  1. Repair the wire or the connector terminal between the EGR connector terminal 3 and the ECM connector terminal A9 as needed.
  2. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Connect a test light between the EGR connector terminal 4 and the ECM connector terminal K118.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Is the test light ON?
- Go to Step 8. Go to Step 7.

  1. Repair the wire or the connector terminal between the EGR connector terminal 4 and the ECM connector terminal K118 as needed.
  2. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Connect a test light between the EGR connector terminal 5 and the ECM connector terminal A46.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Is the test light ON?
- Go to Step 10. Go to Step 9.

  1. Repair the wire or the connector terminal between the EGR connector terminal 5 and the ECM connector terminal A46 as needed.
  2. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

Is the repair complete?
- System OK -
10 Measure the resistance of the EGR solenoid.
Is the resistance between the specified values?
7.8 - 8.6 Ω Go to Step 2. Go to Step 11.

  1. Replace the EGR valve.
  2. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .

Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  2. Replace the ECM.
  3. Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .
