Exhaust System Description: Notes

CAUTION: Engine exhaust can kill. It contains the gas carbon monoxide (CO), which you cannot see or smell. It can cause unconsciousness and death.
You might have exhaust coming in if:
  • Your exhaust system sounds strange or different.
  • Your vehicle gets rusty underneath.
  • Your vehicle was damaged in a collision.
  • Your vehicle was damaged when driving over high points on the road or over road debris.
  • Repairs were not done correctly.
  • Your vehicle or exhaust system had been modified improperly.

If you ever suspect exhaust is coming into your vehicle:
  • Drive it only with all the windows down to blow out any CO; and
  • Have your vehicle fixed immediately.
CAUTION: While engine is operating, the exhaust system will become extremely hot. To prevent burns avoid contacting a hot exhaust system.
NOTE: If there is any mis-positioning, incorrect installation, or failure of components in the brake system pipes, hoses, or wheel cylinders, check for brake damage. The exhaust system components must have adequate clearance from the floor pan to avoid overheating of the floor pan, damage to the passenger compartment carpets and damage to items in the luggage compartments.
