Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC P0117 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0117 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Select ECT sensor parameter on scan tool. If scan tool displays 327°F (164°C), go to next step. If scan tool does not display 327°F (164°C), problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool display drops to -40°F (-40°C), replace ECT sensor. If scan tool display does not drop to -40°F (-40°C), check for short to ground in Orange/Black wire between ECT sensor and PCM 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wire is okay, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
