Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC P0117 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0117 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ECT parameter. If parameter reads 246°F (119°C), turn ignition off and go to next step. If parameter does not read 246°F (119°C), problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. ECT sensor is located in thermostat housing. Turn ignition on. If parameter reading on scan tool changes to -40°F (-40°C), replace ECT sensor and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . Go to next step.
  4. If parameter reading on scan tool does not change to -40°F (-40°C), check for short to ground in Green/White wire between ECT sensor and PCM 16-pin connector C22 terminal No. 10. See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If wire is okay, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
