Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
NOTE:
A short to power in MAP sensor circuit may also damage MAP sensor. Check MAP sensor for proper operation before completing repair. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
- Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC P0108 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0108 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0108, P0113, P0118, P0123 and P0450 are set, check for an open in Light/Green Black wire between PCM 16-pin connector C20 terminal No. 9 and MAP sensor connector terminal No. 1. See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If DTC P0108, P0113, P0118, P0123 and P0450 are not present and Light/Green Black wire is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select MAP sensor parameter. If parameter reads 38 in. Hg. or more, go to next step. If parameter reading is less than 38 in. Hg., problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect MAP sensor connector. Check MAP sensor connector for poor connection. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If connection is okay, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 (Light/Green wire) and No. 2 (Orange/Green wire), individually. Go to next step.
- If reading are 4-6 volts on both wires, go to next step. If readings are not 4-6 volts on either wire, check for short to power in Light/Green wire between MAP sensor and PCM 16-pin connector C22 terminal No. 1, or check for open in Orange/Green wire between MAP sensor and PCM 16-pin connector C22 terminal No. 5. See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wires are okay, check for poor connection at PCM 16-pin harness connector C22. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If connection is okay, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
- Turn ignition off. Remove MAP sensor. Connect three 1.5 volt batteries in series. Ensure total battery output is 4.5-5 volts. Connect positive terminal of batteries to VOLTAGE IN terminal at MAP sensor. Connect negative terminal of batteries to GROUND terminal at MAP sensor. See Figure. Go to next step.
- Test MAP sensor operation. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace MAP sensor as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If MAP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Check Light/Green wire and Light/Green Black wire, located between MAP sensor connector and PCM 16-pin connector C22, for being shorted to each other. Also check for open in Light/Green Black wire between MAP sensor connector and PCM 16-pin connector C22. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If wires are okay, check for poor connection at PCM 16-pin connector C22. If connection is okay, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
