Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (Sidekick 1.8L)
Sensor is photo transistor type located at rear of cylinder head. As CMP sensor shaft rotates, signal generator creates a reference signal and position signal using slits in signal rotor (slits plate). Reference signal pulses (4 per revolution) are used by PCM to determine which piston is at 110 degrees BTDC. Position signal pulses (360 per revolution) are used by PCM to determine size of reference signal, engine speed and piston position.
