Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION (EGR)

The EGR system controls NOx emissions by recirculating exhaust into the combustion chamber. When coolant temperature is low, the ECM sends a signal to the Bi-Metallic Vacuum Switching Valve (BVSW). This opens the EGR valve vacuum passage to outside air and the EGR valve remains closed until normal operating temperature is reached.
