Section 7 (Engine Starting System & Charging System (2.4L)): Starter: Installation

CAUTION:

When replacing the starter, be sure to perform [Start count clearing] after the service. Ref. to AUTO START STOP (DIAGNOSTICS)>WORK SUPPORT .
When replacing the starter, be sure to replace the fuel pump relay at the same time. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DOTC)>FUEL PUMP RELAY .
When replacing the starter, be sure to replace the ICR relay at the same time. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC)>INRUSH CURRENT REDUCTION RELAY .

Install the starter.
Tightening torque:

50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

Connect the connector (C) and terminal (B).
CAUTION: As residual anti-rust grease or dirt on the threads (bolts and nuts), terminals and seating surfaces may cause overtorque, clean and degrease them.

Tightening torque:

11 N.m (1.1 kgf-m, 8.1 ft-lb)
Connect the ground terminal (A).
CAUTION: As residual anti-rust grease or dirt on the threads (bolts and nuts), terminals and seating surfaces may cause overtorque, clean and degrease them.

Tightening torque:

14 N.m (1.4 kgf-m, 10.3 ft-lb)

After connecting the terminal B, apply a thin coat of anti-rust grease to the terminal section.
CAUTION: This procedure is required to prevent rust and suppress sulfation.

Preparation items:

Grease: Viscotech R174 or equivalent Ref. to RECOMMENDED MATERIALS>GREASE>STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEM

(A) Anti-rust grease application area
After connecting the ground terminal, apply a thin coat of anti-rust grease to the terminal section.
CAUTION: This procedure is required to prevent rust and suppress sulfation.

Preparation items:

Grease: Viscotech R174 or equivalent Ref. to RECOMMENDED MATERIALS>GREASE>STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEM .

(A) Anti-rust grease application area
Install the nuts on the lower side of the starter.
Tightening torque:

50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

Install the CVTF cooler pipe. (Model with CVTF cooler (air cool))
Tightening torque:

16 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.8 ft-lb)

Install the center exhaust pipe (rear). Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE (REAR) .
Install the intercooler. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>INTERCOOLER>INSTALLATION .
Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
