Chain Cover: Removal

NOTE:
  1. When working on the vehicle
    NOTE: When working on the vehicle, perform the following steps also.
    1. Remove the radiator. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>RADIATOR>REMOVAL .
  2. Drain the engine oil. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DO)>ENGINE OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  3. Remove the V-belt tensioner assembly. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DO)>V-BELT>REMOVAL>V-BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY .
  4. Remove the generator. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)>GENERATOR>REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the A/C compressor. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>COMPRESSOR>REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the idler pulley. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DO)>V-BELT>REMOVAL>IDLER PULLEY .
  7. Remove the water pump pulley. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>WATER PUMP>REMOVAL>WATER PUMP PULLEY .
  8. Remove the crank pulley. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DO)>CRANK PULLEY>REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the bolts securing the engine wiring harness to the chain cover. (2.5 L model)

  10. Remove the connector (A) and connector (B).
  11. Remove the clip (C) and the clip (D) (2.0 L model) securing the engine wiring harness, and place it aside so that it does not interfere with work.

  12. Disconnect the connector (A) and remove the clip (B) securing the oil level switch harness. (2.0 L model)
  13. Remove the rubber cap (C) from the oil pressure switch. (2.0 L model)
  14. Disconnect the terminal (D), connector (E), connector (F) and connector (G) (2.0 L model)
  15. Remove the clip (H) and clip (I) securing the engine wiring harness, and place them aside so that they do not interfere with work. (2.0 L model)

  16. Disconnect the connector (A) and disconnect the connector (B) from the chain cover. (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)
  17. Remove the harness stay (C) from the water pump. (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)
    CAUTION: Do not remove the inlet engine coolant temperature sensor harness from the harness stay (C).
  18. Disconnect the connector (D) and remove the clip (E) securing the oil level switch harness. (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)
  19. Remove the rubber cap (F) from the oil pressure switch. (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)
  20. Disconnect the terminal (G), connector (H), connector (I) and connector (J) (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)
  21. Remove the clip (K) and clip (L) securing the engine wiring harness, and place them aside so that they do not interfere with work. (2.5 L VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model)

  22. Disconnect the connector (A) and disconnect the connector (B) from the chain cover. (2.5 L VIN:] 4S4############## [model)
  23. Remove the harness stay (C) from the water pump. (2.5 L VIN:] 4S4############## [model)
    CAUTION: Do not remove the inlet engine coolant temperature sensor harness from the harness stay (C).
  24. Disconnect the connector (D) and remove the clip (E) securing the oil level switch harness. (2.5 L VIN:] 4S4############## [model)
  25. Disconnect the terminal (F), connector (G), connector (H) and connector (I) (2.5 L VIN:] 4S4############## [model)
  26. Remove the clip (J) and clip (K) securing the engine wiring harness, and place them aside so that they do not interfere with work. (2.5 L VIN:] 4S4############## [model)

  27. Pull out the oil level gauge (A), and remove the oil level gauge guide (B).

  28. Remove the bolts securing the chain cover to the engine.

  29. Expand the area shown in the figure using a crowbar or a similar tool wrapped in tape for protection, and remove the chain cover from the engine.
    CAUTION: The chain cover may contact the protrusion of cam sprocket sensor plate and cause damage. When removing the chain cover, move the chain cover horizontally until it cannot contact with the cam sprocket, and then remove it carefully.

  30. Remove the O-rings from cylinder head RH, cylinder head LH, cylinder block LH and the oil strainer.

  31. Remove the liquid gasket from the chain cover and engine unit.
