DTC P0096: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1: Notes

  1. DTC detecting condition:

Detected when two consecutive driving cycles with fault occur.

    Trouble symptom:

    • Improper idling
    • Poor driving performance
NOTE: After the faulty parts are repaired or replaced, perform the final check in Basic Diagnostic Procedure. Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DOTC)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .
  1. CHECK DTC  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor or a general scan tool, read the DTC of [Engine]. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

Is DTC other than P0096 displayed? (Current code)

Yes:  Check the appropriate DTC using the "Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)". Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DOTC)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>LIST .

    No:  Go to  2.

  2. CHECK DATA MONITOR  .
    1. Remove the manifold pressure and intake air temperature sensor from the intake manifold assembly with the connector connected. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DOTC)>MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR>REMOVAL
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Engine OFF)
    3. Use a fan to blow ambient air to the manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor.
NOTE: This is to remove heat inside the engine compartment and read the ambient temperature.
    4. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, read the value in [Intake Air Temperature (B1-S2)].
NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)". Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
    5. Use a heater gun to blow warm air to the manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor to read the value of [Intake Air Temperature (B1-S2)] again.
WARNING: Be careful not to burn yourself, deform parts, or cause their erosion.

Does the value of [Intake Air Temperature (B1-S2)] change after blowing warm air?

    Yes:  Go to 3

No:  Replace the manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DOTC)>MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR .

  3. CHECK MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Check the manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DOTC)>MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR>INSPECTION

    Is the check result OK?

Yes:  Repair the poor contact of ECM connector.

No:  Replace the manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DOTC)>MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
