Rocker Cover LH

  1. Install new spark plug pipe gaskets to the spark plug pipe.
    NOTE: Apply a light coat of engine oil to the spark plug pipe gaskets, and insert them onto the spark plug pipe edge (A).

  2. Install new rocker cover gasket (ring type) to the cam carrier LH.

  3. Install new rocker cover gasket LH to the rocker cover LH.
  4. Apply liquid gasket to the mating surface of rocker cover LH as shown in the figure.
    NOTE:
    • Before applying liquid gasket, degrease the old liquid gasket seal surface of the engine.
    • Apply liquid gasket to the center of rocker cover gasket and be careful not to allow liquid gasket to be squeezed out from rocker cover gasket.

      (a) Rocker cover
      (b) Rocker cover gasket
      (c) ø3±1 mm (0.1181±0.0394 in)
    • Install within 5 min. after applying liquid gasket.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 1217G (part No. K0877Y0100), THREE BOND 1217H or equivalent

    Liquid gasket applying diameter: 

    3±1 mm (0.1181±0.0394 in)

    (A) 10 mm (0.3937 in) or more
    (B) 17.3 mm (0.6811 in) or less
    (C) 63.9 mm (2.5157 in) or more
    (D) Arch starting point
  5. Install the rocker cover LH to the cam carrier LH.
    1. Set the rocker cover LH on the cam carrier LH, and fasten all bolts until their two or more full threads engage.
    2. Tighten all bolts with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
    3. Tighten all bolts again with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
      NOTE: This procedure is necessary to stabilize torque.

  6. Connect the connector to the water pipe LH.

  7. Install the #2 ignition coil and the #4 ignition coil. Ref. to IGNITION (H4DOTC)>IGNITION COIL>INSTALLATION>LH SIDE .
  8. Install the side engine oil cooler pipe. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DOTC)>ENGINE OIL COOLER>INSTALLATION>SIDE ENGINE OIL COOLER PIPE .
  9. When working on the vehicle
    NOTE: When working on the vehicle, perform the following steps also.
    1. Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.

      (A) To engine rear hanger
      (B) To ST (HANGER)
    2. Lift the engine a little, and remove the ST.
      CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.

    3. Lower the engine and remove the lifting device and wire ropes.
    4. Remove the ST1 and ST2 from the engine unit.

    5. Install the pitching stopper. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .
    6. Lift up the vehicle.
    7. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the crossmember COMPL front.
      CAUTION: Be sure to use a new nut.
      NOTE: Make sure that locators (a) of the engine mounting are securely inserted.

      Tightening torque: 

      90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

    8. Install the center exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
    9. Lower the vehicle.
    10. Attach the bracket.

      Tightening torque: 

      7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    11. Place the engine wiring harness and secure the engine wiring harness to the bracket with the claw (A).
    12. Set the battery cable assembly, and secure the battery cable assembly to the bracket with claw (B).

    13. Install the engine wiring harness to the clip (A), and connect the connector (B) and terminal (C).

      Tightening torque: 

      7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    14. Connect the connector (D) and connector (E) in numerical order shown in figure.

    15. Install the battery. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC)>BATTERY>INSTALLATION .
    16. Install the air intake duct. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>AIR INTAKE DUCT>INSTALLATION .
    17. Install the V-belt cover.
      NOTE:
      • Check the grommet for peel-off or disengagement.
      • Be careful not to deform the bracket during installation.

      Tightening torque: 

      7 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 5.2 ft-lb)

    18. Fill engine coolant. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>ENGINE COOLANT>REPLACEMENT>FILLING OF ENGINE COOLANT .
    19. Set the hood COMPL front to the normal position. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>STAY ASSEMBLY FRONT HOOD .
    20. Install the striker assembly front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>ASSEMBLY .
    21. Close the hood COMPL front.
