Transfer Clutch Pressure Test: Inspection
WARNING:
During the transfer clutch pressure test, confirm safety in the vicinity and make sure no person is around the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Vehicle components are extremely hot immediately after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
- Check the engine oil level. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DO)>ENGINE OIL>INSPECTION .
- Check the engine coolant level. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>ENGINE COOLANT>INSPECTION .
- Remove the front wheel RH. Ref. to WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM>TIRE AND WHEEL>REMOVAL .
- Remove the test plug (transfer clutch pressure), and install ST1 and ST2.CAUTION:
- Because the CVTF will flow out, install the ST quickly.
- Be careful when setting the tool so that the ST does not touch the exhaust pipe.
NOTE:- Prepare the container for draining of engine oil.
- Use the ST1 with genuine O-ring (part No. 806908150) attached.
- Use the ST2 with genuine O-ring (part No. 806911080) attached.
Preparation tool:
ST1: OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ASSY (498575400)
ST2: PRESSURE GAUGE ADAPTER (18681AA000)
- Install the front wheel RH. Ref. to WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM>TIRE AND WHEEL>INSTALLATION .
- Set the gauge so that it can be seen from the driver's seat.
- Connect the Subaru Select Monitor.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Engine OFF)
- Display [ATF Temp.].
- Turn off all systems causing an electrical load, such as headlights, A/C, seat heater and rear defogger.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Start the engine.
- Turn OFF the pre-collision brake function.
- Turn OFF the X mode switch. (Model with X mode)
- Check the CVTF level. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>CVTF>INSPECTION .
- Warm up until [ATF Temp.] reaches to 60 - 80°C (140 - 176°F).
- Place wheel chocks at the front and rear of all wheels.
- Record the transfer clutch pressure with the engine idling.
Specification:
0 kPa (0 kgf/cm2 , 0 psi)
- Switch to FWD mode. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>AWD ON/OFF SWITCHING MODE>PROCEDURE .
- Shift the select lever to "D range", and depress and hold the brake pedal.
- When the engine speed stabilizes, record the transfer clutch pressure.
Specification:
0 kPa (0 kgf/cm2 , 0 psi)
- Switch to AWD mode. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>AWD ON/OFF SWITCHING MODE>PROCEDURE .
- Display [AWD. Sol. Set Current].
- While fully depressing the brake pedal with your left foot, depress the accelerator pedal until [AWD. Sol. Set Current] becomes 600 mA.CAUTION: Do not perform this procedure for over 5 seconds at a time.
- When the engine speed stabilizes, quickly record the transfer clutch pressure, and release the accelerator pedal.
Specification:
400 - 700 kPa (4.1 - 7.1 kgf/cm2 , 58 - 102 psi)
- Shift the select lever to "N range", and idle the engine for one minute or more.
- Shift the select lever to "D range".
- Depress the accelerator pedal to the full while fully depressing the brake pedal with your left foot.CAUTION: Do not perform this procedure for over 5 seconds at a time.
- When the engine speed stabilizes, quickly record the transfer clutch pressure, and release the accelerator pedal.
Specification:
1, 100 - 1, 400 kPa (11.2 - 14.3 kgf/cm2 , 159 - 203 psi)
- Shift the select lever to "N range", and idle the engine for one minute or more.
- Remove the front wheel RH. Ref. to WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM>TIRE AND WHEEL>REMOVAL .
- Remove the ST (OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ASSY), and install the test plug (transfer clutch pressure) using a new O-ring.CAUTION: Because the CVTF will flow out, install the test plug (line pressure) quickly.NOTE: Apply CVTF to the O-rings.
Tightening torque:
22 N.m (2.2 kgf-m, 16.2 ft-lb)
- Install the front wheel RH. Ref. to WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM>TIRE AND WHEEL>INSTALLATION .
- Check the CVTF level. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>CVTF>INSPECTION .
