Differential Side Retainer Oil Seal: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    NOTE: Perform this procedure only when replacing the LH side.
  2. Drain differential gear oil. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  3. Remove the front drive shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the differential side retainer oil seal using a flat tip screwdriver wrapped with protection tape, etc.

  5. Install the new differential side retainer oil seal using the ST.
    NOTE:
    • Apply differential oil to the lip section of the differential side retainer oil seal.
    • Since the differential side retainer oil seal has an identification mark (R or L), be careful not to mix up the RH and LH when installing.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST: INSTALLER (499247400)

  6. Install the front drive shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>INSTALLATION .
  7. Fill differential gear oil. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580)>DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  8. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
