Radar Axis Adjustment

CAUTION:
  • After removal/installation of the radar sensor or the radar bracket, perform the radar axis adjustment.
  • This procedure shows the master side. The procedure for the slave side can also be done in the same way as the master side.
  • This procedure shows the OUTBACK model. The procedure for the sedan model can also be done in the same way as OUTBACK model.
  1. Before performing the inspection, check the following items.
    • The inflation pressure of tires is correct.
    • The vehicle does not have load.
    • Vehicle's fuel tank is fully filled.
  2. Place the vehicle on a level surface, where approximately 5 m (16.41 ft) square area can be secured behind the vehicle.
    CAUTION:
    • No metallic objects around the vehicle and on the floor in the area.
    • Do not let in objects other than ST, persons and metallic objects inside the area.
    NOTE: The illustration shows the secured area for adjusting the radar axis on the master side  .

  3. Perform the adjustment of radar axis.
    NOTE: The following procedure explains the method of setting ST so that the distance between ST and radar sensor is 1, 500 mm (4.92 ft) and the angle of the radar is 50°  .
    1. Install ST to the stand or tripod and adjust the height.

      Preparation tool: 

      ST: RADAR REFLECTOR (87699AL00A)

      Specification: 

      Sedan model: 700±10 mm (27.6±0.39 in)

      OUTBACK model: 655±10 mm (25.79±0.39 in)

    2. Suspend the plumb bob with leveling line from the center of the front wheel cap, and affix the packing tape, etc. and make a marking on the tape at the point where the plumb bob touches the ground. (Point A)

    3. Suspend the plumb bob with leveling line from the center of the rear bumper mounting clip, and affix the packing tape, etc. and make a marking on the tape at the point where the plumb bob touches the ground. (Point B)

    4. Use a string to draw an arc with the marked point A and point B as a pivot.
    5. Set up ST at the cross point of the two arcs so that the center of pyramid of ST is oriented toward the radar sensor.

      Preparation tool: 

      ST: RADAR REFLECTOR (87699AL00A)

    6. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, select [RADAR Alignment] from the work support item list of [Blind Spot Detection/Rear Cross Traffic Alert(LH)] or [Blind Spot Detection/Rear Cross Traffic Alert(RH)]. Ref. to COMMON (DIAG)>WORK SUPPORT>OPERATION .
    7. Follow the messages displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor screen when working.
      NOTE: Deviation of radar axis direction is indicated by + (plus) or - (minus)  .

    8. If the result is out of permissive range, it is assumed that the ST set position may be incorrect or the radar bracket or its installation location on the vehicle may be deformed. Check the ST set position, radar bracket and other attachment, and perform the radar axis adjustment again.
