DTC P059F: Active Grille Air Shutter "A" Performance/Stuck Off: Notes

DTC detecting condition:
Detected when two consecutive driving cycles with fault occur.
- CHECK DTC
.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor or a general scan tool, read the DTC of [Engine].
Is DTC P059F displayed? (Current malfunction)
Yes : Go to 2 .
No : Even if DTC is detected, it has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, it is assumed that the active grille shutter may have temporarily had a foreign matter adhered/pinched or a frost. - CHECK ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER
.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Check the area around the active grille shutter louver, louver link and actuator.
Is there any abnormality such as a foreign matter adhered or pinched and a frost?
Yes : Remove the foreign matter from the active grille shutter and go to the next step. Go to 3 .
No : Go to 3 .
- CHECK ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER
.
- Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor.
Ref. to GROUND TERMINAL REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front bumper.
- Check the area around the active grille shutter louver, louver link and actuator.
Is there any damage in each part of the active grille shutter?
Yes : Replace the active grille shutter. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER .
No : Go to 4 .
- Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor.
- CHECK ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER
.
- Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor.
Ref. to GROUND TERMINAL REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION .
- Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Engine OFF)
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, perform the operation check of the active grille shutter to measure time needed for open or close operation.NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to the "Active Test". Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DO)>ACTIVE TEST .
Is the time less than 15 seconds?
Yes : Even if DTC is detected, it has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
No : Go to 5 .
- Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor.
- CHECK DATA MONITOR

Using the Subaru Select Monitor, read the value in [Active Grille Shutter Voltage Error Status].
NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "Common (Diagnostics)". Ref. to COMMON (DIAG)>DATA MONITOR .Is [Normal] displayed?
Yes : Go to 6 .
No : Check the power supply circuit. If the power supply circuit is normal, replace the active grille shutter. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER .
- CHECK DATA MONITOR

- Turn the ignition switch to OFF, and cool down the engine enough.NOTE: Cool down the engine unit until it can be easily touched by hand.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, read the value in [Active Grille Shutter Temperature Error Status].NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "Common (Diagnostics)". Ref. to COMMON (DIAG)>DATA MONITOR .
Is [Normal] displayed?
Yes : Even if DTC is detected, it has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
No : Replace the active grille shutter. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER .
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF, and cool down the engine enough.
