Sub Frame: Removal

NOTE: This procedure is only for non-hybrid models. For hybrid models, perform the procedure by referring to the procedure for non-hybrid models.
  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, go to the brake maintenance mode according to the display screen. (Hybrid model) Ref. to PARKING BRAKE>PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM>OPERATION>BRAKE MAINTENANCE MODE .
  3. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    NOTE: For the hybrid model, disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  4. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  5. Remove the fuel tank protector. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FUEL TANK PROTECTOR>REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the rear exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>REAR EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the propeller shaft assembly. Ref. to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>PROPELLER SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the clamp of the sub rear harness.

  9. Remove the sensor assembly - headlight beam leveler. (Model with vehicle height sensor) Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>REAR HEIGHT SENSOR>REMOVAL .
  10. Disconnect the stabilizer link (bottom part). (Model with stabilizer) Ref. to REAR SUSPENSION>STABILIZER>REMOVAL>STABILIZER LINK .
  11. Remove the clip and bolt on the harness clamp, and remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage the sensor.
    • Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness.

  12. Remove the disc brake assembly - rear and disc rotor. Ref. to BRAKE>REAR DISC ROTOR>REMOVAL .
  13. Remove the cable assembly - parking brake and the parking brake shoe. Ref. to PARKING BRAKE>PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY (REAR DISC BRAKE)>REMOVAL .
  14. Disconnect the cable assembly - parking brake.

  15. Remove the bolts from the lower side of rear shock absorber assembly.

  16. Remove the rear suspension assembly.
    1. Support the rear suspension assembly using a transmission jack.
      CAUTION: The rear suspension assembly is heavy. Make sure that it is firmly supported so that it is level.
    2. Remove the bolts, and remove the left and right support - sub frames.
    3. Remove the rear suspension assembly.
    CAUTION: While checking there is no dragging of harness and wire, lower it slowly with a transmission jack.

  17. As necessary, remove each part from the sub frame assembly.
