Rocker Cover LH

  1. Install new spark plug pipe gaskets to the spark plug pipe.
    NOTE: Apply a light coat of engine oil to the spark plug pipe gaskets, and insert them onto the spark plug pipe edge (A).

  2. Install new rocker cover gasket (ring type) to the cam carrier LH.

  3. Install new rocker cover gasket LH to the rocker cover LH.
  4. Apply liquid gasket to the mating surface of rocker cover LH as shown in the figure.
    NOTE:
    • Before applying liquid gasket, degrease the old liquid gasket seal surface of the engine.
    • Be careful not to allow liquid gasket to be squeezed out from rocker cover LH.
    • Install within 5 min. after applying liquid gasket.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 1217G (part No. K0877Y0100), THREE BOND 1217H or equivalent

    Liquid gasket applying diameter: 

    3±1 mm (0.1181±0.0394 in)

  5. Install the rocker cover LH to the cam carrier LH.
    1. Set the rocker cover LH on the cam carrier LH, and fasten all bolts until their two or more full threads engage.
    2. Tighten all bolts with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
    3. Tighten all bolts again with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
      NOTE: This procedure is necessary to stabilize torque.

  6. Install the #2 ignition coil and the #4 ignition coil. Ref. to IGNITION (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>IGNITION COIL>INSTALLATION .
  7. When working on the vehicle
    NOTE: When working on the vehicle, perform the following steps also.
    1. Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.

    2. Lift the engine a little, and remove the ST.
      CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.

    3. Lower the engine and remove the lifting device and wire ropes.
    4. Remove the ST1 and ST2 from the engine unit. (Gasoline engine model)

    5. Lift up the vehicle.
    6. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (CVT model)
      CAUTION: Use new nuts.
      NOTE: Make sure that locators (a) of the engine mounting are securely inserted.

      Tightening torque: 

      90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

    7. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (MT model)
      CAUTION: Use new nuts.

      Tightening torque: 

      90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

    8. Install the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
    9. Lower the vehicle.
    10. Install the fuel pipe protector to the high-pressure fuel pump case and intake manifold assembly. (Impreza model)

      Tightening torque: 

      19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 ft-lb)

    11. Install the fuel pipe protector No. 1 to the high-pressure fuel pump case and intake manifold assembly. (Crosstrek model)

      Tightening torque: 

      19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 ft-lb)

    12. Attach the bracket.

      Tightening torque: 

      7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    13. Place the engine wiring harness and secure the engine wiring harness to the bracket with the claw (A).
    14. Set the battery cable assembly, and secure the battery cable assembly to the bracket with claw (B). (Gasoline engine model)

    15. Install the engine wiring harness to the clip (D), and connect the terminal (C) and connector (B) to the main fuse box.

      Tightening torque: 

      7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    16. Connect connector (A) to ECM.
      CAUTION: To prevent damage to the connector (A), when connecting the connector (A), insert the connector (A) straight in until it stops, and while maintaining the position, lock the lever.
      NOTE: Check that the lever is located at the position shown in the figure (position beyond the lock portion (a)).

    17. Install the battery.

      Gasoline engine model: 

      Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>BATTERY>INSTALLATION .

      Hybrid model: 

      Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO(HEV))>BATTERY>INSTALLATION .

    18. Install the pitching stopper. (CVT model)

      Impreza model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      Crosstrek gasoline engine model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 CROSSTREK)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      Crosstrek hybrid model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

    19. Install the pitching stopper. (MT model)

      5MT model: 

      Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (5MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      6MT model: 

      Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

    20. Install the air intake duct. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>AIR INTAKE DUCT> INSTALLATION .
    21. Install the air intake boot. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>AIR INTAKE BOOT>INSTALLATION .
    22. Install the V-belt cover. (Gasoline engine model)
      NOTE:
      • Check the grommet for peel-off or disengagement.
      • Be careful not to deform the bracket during installation.

      Tightening torque: 

      7 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 5.2 ft-lb)

    23. Install the collector cover. (Hybrid model) Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>COLLECTOR COVER>INSTALLATION .
    24. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
      NOTE: For the hybrid model, connect the battery negative terminal.
    25. Set the front hood to the normal position. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>STAY ASSEMBLY - FRONT HOOD .
    26. Install the striker - front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>ASSEMBLY .
    27. Close the front hood.
