Engine Lubrication System Trouble in General: Inspection

Before performing diagnostics, make sure that the engine oil level is correct and no oil leakage exists.

Trouble	Possible cause	Corrective action
The oil pressure warning light illuminates.	a. Oil pressure switch failure	Replace the oil pressure switch.
	b. Low oil pressure
	◦ Clogging of oil filter	Replace the oil filter.
	◦ Clogged or broken oil strainer	Clean or replace the oil strainer.
	◦ Clogged oil passage	Clean or replace faulty parts.
	◦ Defective oil pump	Replace the chain cover.
	◦ Insufficient engine oil (degradation, etc.)	Replace engine oil.
	c. Short circuit of the harness	Repair the harness.
The oil pressure warning light does not illuminate.	a. Malfunction of combination meter	Replace the combination meter.
	b. Oil pressure switch failure	Replace the oil pressure switch.
	c. Open circuit of harness	Repair the harness.
