Inspection When Engine Oil Level Warning Light Is On

  1. CHECK DTC. 

    Read the DTC using Subaru Select Monitor. Refer to COMMON (DIAG)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>OPERATION .

    Is DTC detected?

    Yes 

    1. Repair the corresponding system.
    2. Go to  2.

    No  Go to  2.

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL. 

    Check the engine oil level. Refer to LUBRICATION (H4DO)>ENGINE OIL>INSPECTION .

    Is engine oil level normal?

    Yes  Go to  3.

    No 

    1. Adjust the engine oil level to a proper amount.
    2. Go to  3.
  3. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT. 
    1. Start the engine and warm up completely.
    2. Turn to IG OFF, and wait for one minute or more.
    3. Turn to IG ON.
    4. Check if engine oil level warning light goes off.

    Does the engine oil level warning light go off?

    Yes  System is normal.

    Restore the vehicle to its original state.

    No  Go to  4.

  4. CHECK OIL LEVEL SWITCH. 
    1. Turn the ignition to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Refer to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    3. Disconnect the oil level switch connector.
    4. Check continuity between the oil level switch terminal and chassis ground

    Is there continuity?

    Yes  Go to  5.

    No  Replace the oil level switch.

    Restore the vehicle to its original state.

  5. CHECK CONTINUITY OF ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check continuity between the connector on the engine wiring harness oil level switch side and the connector on the engine wiring harness ECM side.

    Is there continuity?

    Yes  Go to  6.

    No 

    1. Repair the engine wiring harness.
    2. Restore the vehicle to its original state.
  6. CHECK COMBINATION METER. 
    1. Restore the vehicle to its original state.
    2. Perform the self-diagnosis display mode of combination meter. Refer to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER SYSTEM>OPERATION>SELF-DIAGNOSIS DISPLAY MODE .

    Is combination meter OK?

    Yes 

    1. Check for poor contact due to the wear of connector pin etc., and if no fault is found, replace the ECM. Refer to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS(H4DO)>ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) .
    2. Restore the vehicle to its original state.

    No 

    1. Replace the combination meter. Refer to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER .
    2. Restore the vehicle to its original state.
