DTC P0506: Idle Control System Rpm - Lower Than Expected: Notes

DTC detecting condition: 

Detected when two consecutive driving cycles with fault occur.

Trouble symptom: 

• Hard to start the engine.
• Engine does not start.
• Improper idling
• Engine stalls.
  CAUTION: After servicing or replacing faulty parts, perform Clear Memory Mode Refer to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>CLEAR MEMORY MODE>OPERATION , and inspection mode Refer to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>INSPECTION MODE>PROCEDURE ..

1. CHECK DTC. 

   Read the engine DTC using the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool. Refer to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

   Is DTC other than P0506 displayed? (Current malfunction)

   Yes:  Check the appropriate DTC using the "List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)". Refer to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>LIST OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

   No:  Go to  2.

2. CHECK AIR CLEANER ELEMENT. 
   1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
   2. Check the air cleaner element.

   Is there excessive clogging on air cleaner element?

   Yes:  Replace the air cleaner element. Refer to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>AIR CLEANER ELEMENT .

   No:  Go to  3.

3. CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. 
   1. Remove the electronic throttle control. Refer to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>THROTTLE BODY>REMOVAL .
   2. Check the electronic throttle control.

   Are foreign matter found inside electronic throttle control?

   Yes:  Remove foreign matter from electronic throttle control.

   No:  Perform the DTC diagnosis. Refer to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR STI)>DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>DTC P2101 THROTTLE ACTUATOR "A" CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE .
