Sub Frame: Removal

NOTE: This procedure is only for non-hybrid models. For hybrid models, perform the procedure by referring to the procedure for non-hybrid models.
  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery.

    Refer to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY>GROUND TERMINAL REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION .

  3. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  4. Remove the fuel tank protector.

    Refer to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FUEL TANK PROTECTOR>REMOVAL .

  5. Remove the rear exhaust pipe.

    Refer to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>REAR EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .

  6. Remove the propeller shaft assembly.

    Refer to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>PROPELLER SHAFT>REMOVAL .

  7. Remove the clamp of the sub rear harness.

  8. Remove the sensor assembly - headlight beam leveler. (Model with auto headlight beam leveler)

    Refer to LIGHTING SYSTEM>REAR HEIGHT SENSOR>REMOVAL .

  9. Remove the trailing link.

    Refer to REAR SUSPENSION>TRAILING LINK>REMOVAL .

  10. Remove the rear lateral link (front).

    Refer to REAR SUSPENSION>REAR LATERAL LINK (FRONT)>REMOVAL .

  11. Remove the rear lateral link (rear).

    Refer to REAR SUSPENSION>REAR LATERAL LINK (REAR)>REMOVAL .

  12. Disconnect the stabilizer link (bottom part). (Model with stabilizer)

    Refer to REAR SUSPENSION>STABILIZER>REMOVAL>STABILIZER LINK .

  13. Remove the clip and bolt on the harness clamp, and remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage the sensor.
    • Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness.

  14. Remove the disc brake assembly - rear.

    Refer to BRAKE>REAR DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLY>REMOVAL .

  15. Remove the cable assembly - parking brake and the parking brake shoe.

    Refer to PARKING BRAKE>PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY (REAR DISC BRAKE)>REMOVAL .

  16. Disconnect the cable assembly - parking brake.

  17. Remove the drive shaft.

    Refer to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>REAR DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .

  18. Remove the rear axle housing.

  19. Remove the rear differential.

    Refer to DIFFERENTIALS>REAR DIFFERENTIAL (T-TYPE)>REMOVAL .

  20. Remove the sub frame assembly.
    1. Support the sub frame assembly using a transmission jack.
      CAUTION: The sub frame assembly is heavy. Make sure that it is firmly supported so that it is level.
    2. Remove the bolts, and remove the left and right support - sub frames.
    3. Remove the sub frame assembly.
      CAUTION: While checking there is no dragging of harness and wire, lower it slowly with a transmission jack.

  21. Remove the rear upper arm assembly from the sub frame assembly.
